Bartica cyclist struck down by bus

A 28-year-old Bartica carpenter is now a patient of the Male Open Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital after being struck down by a minibus in the Region 7 community on Friday morning.

Terrence Hughes, a father of two, was reportedly riding to the Bartica hospital on his bicycle to visit his pregnant wife when he was struck down by the minibus. His relatives told this newspaper yesterday at the GPHC, that Hughes left home to visit his wife around 8 am on Friday morning when he was knocked down by the minibus which was reportedly overtaking another minibus at the time.

The man suffered injuries to the right side of his body, including a broken right hand and foot as well as cuts to the right side of his head. His cousin told this newspaper yesterday that the driver of the bus was taken into custody at the Bartica Police Station shortly after the accident.

Hughes’ condition is listed as stable.
