Woman dies, 14 hurt in Corentyne crash

One woman died and 14 persons were injured yesterday afternoon when a pick-up filled with community policing group members from across Berbice ran into a parked tractor at No. 53 Village, Corentyne and slammed several other vehicles.

The dead woman has been identified as Drupati Indal of Canje, Berbice. Police sources say the injured persons were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Among those injured is Narine Chattergoon, Co-ordinator of Community Policing Groups.

The group was returning from an excursion to Orealla and the pick-up was said to be overloaded. The pick-up was of the open back type. No further details were available last night.
