Two men accused of murdering 43-year-old Simone Coleridge, the RK security guard who was on duty at the Uncle Eddie’s Home, yesterday appeared  before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on May 27 at Georgetown, 30-year-old Leroy Lynch, also known as ‘Sinbo’, a mason of East La Penitence Squatting Area and Kevin Bamfield, 33, a miner of 3552 North Ruimveldt, Postal Housing Scheme murdered Coleridge.

When given a chance to respond, both men said that they were elsewhere when the incident occurred and there were persons who could substantiate their alibis.

Lynch told the court that he had nothing to do with the murder as he was at a ‘bingi’ (revelry) at the time. “When dis thing happen I wasn’t around, I was at de bingi from 9:00 de night, till 7:30 de next morning and I gat proof fuh duh.”

Meanwhile, Bamfield explained that on the day in question, he was at home with his aunt when the incident occurred. “I was at home at de time when dis thing happen and me aunty could prove duh.”

Coleridge of Tiger Bay was tied, gagged, beaten and then strangled while on duty at Uncle Eddie’s Home. She had been assigned to the senior citizens’ home by her company less than a year ago.

She was found with her arms tied behind her back, her feet tightly strapped together, and her mouth stuffed with newspaper and bound.

Investigations, police said, had revealed that “an aide on duty at the institution heard a noise in the building and upon checking found the lifeless body of the security guard lying on the floor in the waiting area of the building. Her hands and feet were bound and her mouth gagged with a piece of cloth.”

A subsequent check, according to police, revealed that a television set, a portable fridge and a microwave had been stolen. Police have since recovered the stolen articles in an abandoned house in the Tucville area.

The unrepresented duo was remanded to prison until June 22 and their matter was transferred to Court Five.
