Region Five gets equipment valued $3.2M

The local government ministry on Friday handed over equipment valued $3.2M to Region Five to boost development.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Minister of Local Government and Regional Develop-ment Kellawan Lall handed over a 16-ft aluminium boat, two outboard engines and five brush cutters to Regional Executive Officer Floyd France. They are intended for use in the Abary Creek.

Lall said the initiative is part of an intervention President Bharrat Jagdeo committed to during a visit to the Creek in January. He said plans are in train to hand over several other pieces of equipment to other regions as part of government’s outreach efforts.

Lall said too he hopes the equipment will be used for the benefit of the people and the boat used to transport health and education officers and children to school.
