Amanda Sooklall, the woman who had sustained the brunt of an attack launched by bandits at Magic Mall at La Grange, West Demerara on May 28, has been discharged from the hospital and is recuperating at home.

Meanwhile, her employee, 16-year-old Tamar Thom who had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital on the evening of the incident due to injuries she received is also at home resting.

“I am feeling much better now. Parts of my hands are still swollen, but I am feeling much better and grateful for life,” Sooklall said by phone when contacted.

When asked if anyone has since been arrested in connection with the robbery, both Thomas and Sooklall replied in the negative but indicated they had been told by the police that investigations into the matter are continuing. Meanwhile, efforts to solicit a comment from Paulette Morrison, Commander of the West Demerara District proved futile.

Following the incident, Sooklall was admitted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre (DDC) in an unconscious state because of the severe head injuries she had sustained.
In the attack, she was dealt several blows to her head and other parts of her body.
Two armed men on May 28, posing as customers, swept through the La Grange shopping facility beating those who opposed them and gathering booty.

Police had said in a press release that they were investigating the armed robbery and had already recovered a bag with some of the booty.
