A 25-year-old man last Friday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge of assault causing actual bodily harm.

It is alleged that on June 3 at Georgetown, Jason Thomas of 36 Norton Street unlawfully assaulted Yolanda Winter so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

When given a chance to respond, however, the defendant told the court that he had an argument with the virtual complainant (VC) and he slapped her.

The VC told the court that the defendant is the father of her child and she did not want him to go to jail but wanted to drop the matter and only for him to be warned.

Thomas, a cell phone technician, was subsequently placed on a bond to keep the peace for two years and was ordered to pay $4,000 cost.
