US women on drug charge

Two US citizens were yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton when they appeared before her to answer to the charge of trafficking in narcotics.

It is alleged that on June 7 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, Tracy-Ann Samuels, 24, a hairdresser and Asia Smallwood, also 24, an Administrative Officer of a botanical gardens in New York had in their possession 3kg, 863 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The two women who were jointly charged pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
The duo was refused bail and will next attend the Providence Magistrate’s Court on June 15.
