President meets North Rupununi group on low carbon strategy

President Bharrat Jagdeo on Tuesday held a follow-up meeting with a group from the North Rupununi on the draft document of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) for which national consultations were launched on Monday.

The group comprised Michael Williams, Ivor Marslow, Sydney Allicock, Virgil Harding, Executive Director of the North Rupununi District Development Board and Bryan Allicock, Community Development Officer in the North Rupununi.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Allicock said the meeting was convened to allow them a better understanding of the LCDS so that they can inform their constituents. “Anything new gives a lot of fear into people so the more we understand, the better we would be able to operate, and we would like to support this event here. It is something new for all of us and we see a great future ahead,” he said.

The sub-national consultations on the LCDS for the North Rupununi region will be held on June 19. Harding, who is also the chief announcer and broadcaster of Radio Paiwomak (97.1FM) which serves the North Rupununi, is a member of the dissemination team that will inform residents about the LCDS.
