Duo remanded over gunpoint robbery

Troy Smith and Garfield Hoyte, who allegedly robbed two men of a quantity of cash and cell phones at gunpoint, were remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday when they appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Smith and Hoyte were both informed by the magistrate that they were not required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms.

It is alleged that on May 27, the two men robbed Krinshadath Kandhai and Mahadeo Ramnarine of a quantity of cash and cell phones, totalling $127,000.

The prosecution objected to Smith and Hoyte’s bail applications when they suggested it and requested that both men be remanded to prison.

The magistrate subsequently granted the prosecution’s request and ordered that the two men return to court on July 7.
