Suspected bus robbers nabbed by police

Three suspected bandits, who robbed a ‘B’ Field Sophia minibus conductor and his passenger on Wednesday night, have been arrested.

Police in a press release on Thursday said they are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 9.30 pm on Wednesday at ‘B’ Field, Sophia.  A mini-bus conductor and a passenger were attacked and robbed by three men armed with a handgun, a cutlass and an ice-pick, police said.

According to them, the mini-bus which was proceeding along a roadway at ‘B’ Field had stopped to put off another passenger when the three armed men approached and held up the occupants who were ordered to lie on the ground. The men stole two cellular phones and a total of $8,300 from the two victims and escaped.

Members of a mobile police patrol, in ‘E’ Field, Sophia at the time, saw the three men and challenged them. The men were arrested and a subsequent search led to the recovery of an unlicensed 9mm Taurus pistol.  The men, police said, were later identified as the perpetrators of the armed robbery by one of the victims. The victim’s cellular phone was found in the men’s possession.

Meanwhile, the police said that on Thursday at 5.15 pm members of a mobile patrol stopped and searched pick-up GKK 9697 at Garden of Eden during which an unlicensed .32 Beretta pistol with a magazine and 10 matching rounds and 25 grammes of marijuana were found.
