Port Kaituma man struck dead by tree

A 45-year-old Port Kaituma man was pronounced dead at the Kwakwani Hospital after a tree fell on him while he was logging on Saturday afternoon.

Gregory De Mingo was reportedly cutting a tree with a chainsaw on a logging concession in Kwakwani when the tree fell on him, hitting him on the head and other parts of his body.

His work mate, Brian James, reportedly told police that by the time he removed the branches De Mingo was already dead but he nevertheless took him to the hospital where he was officially pronounced dead.

The body was taken to the Lykens Funeral Home on Saturday night.
