A man was remanded to prison after he appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s court on Thursday on a charge of robbery under arms.

Anil Sukhu of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Yohhansseh Cave and was remanded to prison. Police said that about 10:20 pm on Tuesday, Sukhu had allegedly robbed Suzette Errol of South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD. The woman was walking along the Vryheid’s Lust Public Road when she was confronted by Sukhu, who held her at knifepoint and took away a handbag which contained her cell phone and $13,000, the police said.

Errol raised an alarm and a number of public-spirited persons in the community responded. They chased the perpetrator who was subsequently caught and handed over to the police. The stolen articles were recovered.
