A 30-year-old father of four who was charged with the offence of robbery with aggravation was on Wednesday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on June 8 at Georgetown, Joel David of 6 ‘A’ Water Street robbed Clifford Success of items valued $331,500, property of the said Clifford Success.

David was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

The virtual complainant (VC) was not present in court.

Attorney-at-law Mohamed Zafar who represented the defendant told the court that he did not wish to get into the details of the     matter and would leave it for the trial. Zafar, however, made an application that his client be admitted to reasonable bail on the grounds that he, [the defendant] poses no risk of flight, and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.

Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith, however, objected to bail stating that the accused has had previous convictions for similar offences and  if bail were to be granted, there is a likelihood that the defendant may not return to stand trial.

The accused  was later remanded to prison until July 28.
