-man in custody

The remains flown to Georgetown on Thursday and suspected to be of 10-year-old Markinson Felix, were discovered at Maikwak, Upper Potaro by a hunter two Saturdays ago.

Police had said in a press release at the time that “The skeletal remains, suspected to be that of a young person, were found yesterday at Maikwak, Upper Potaro, by the police”.  A team of police investigators, according to a police press statement, was dispatched to the area following the discovery.

Felix was reported missing by his grandmother on February 27.

The woman and her grandson had gone fishing, police said, and Felix was asked to return home to get some additional fishing rods. He never returned to his grandmother.

A hunter in the area stumbled on a grave and the remains were then unearthed.

A man has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Stabroek News had learnt from sources that the contents of the shallow grave had to be scooped up. City detectives visited Maikwak on Thursday to conduct investigations.
