‘Alligator’ on malicious damage charge

A 46-year-old father of three was on Monday placed on bail in the sum of $125,000 when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charges of malicious damage to property and simple larceny.

It is alleged that on November 6, 2008 at Georgetown, Colin Goodridge also known as ‘Alligator’ of 6 Zeskenderen, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara unlawfully and maliciously damaged one car door lock valued $60,000, property belonging to Keron Lall.

On June 6, 2009 at Georgetown, it is alleged that the said Colin Goodridge stole the sum of $200,000 from Mohabir Hitram, property of the said Mohabir Hitram.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
Neither of the virtual complainants was present at court.

Attorney-at-law Patrice Henry who represented the defendant made an application that reasonable bail be granted to his client on the grounds that he poses no risk of flight and is well known by the police.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram, prosecuting, had no objection to the bail application made by the defence attorney.

Goodridge was subsequently granted $50,000 bail for the malicious damage to property charge and $75,000 bail for the simple larceny charge.

His matter was transferred to Court Three for July 8.
