Housewife accused of theft granted bail

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Thursday granted a housewife accused of stealing, $20,000 bail when she appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge.

It is alleged that on Wednesday at Georgetown, 36-year-old Anita Persaud of 315 South East Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara stole $78,000, the property of Andy Wilson. Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when she appeared in court on Thursday.

Persaud’s attorney Adrian Thompson asked the magistrate for the matter be called to the bench.
This was subsequently granted and a lengthy discussion ensued.
Wilson did not attend court.
Persaud was ordered to return to court on July 30.
