The deaths of two motorcyclists in an accident on the Essequibo Coast late Saturday has left the area in shock even as two other persons remain hospitalized at the Suddie Hospital.
Twenty-one-year-old Rudranauth Narayan called ‘Buffy’ of Johanna Cecelia and 36-year-old Mahendranauth Deonarine, a rice farmer of Lima Housing Scheme died in the incident, during which the motorcycles that they were riding collided with each other on the La Belle Alliance public road, Essequibo. According to reports, Deonarine was overtaking a car, heading west, when he collided with the motorcycle that Narayan and McCoy were riding. They were heading in the opposite direction. The incident occurred after 5pm on Saturday. A relative of Deonarine said that he had been drinking earlier in the day and was returning home. Also on his motorcycle was Bisnauth, who was staying at the Lima Housing Scheme. Deonarine reportedly died on the spot. Narayan was pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Hospital. “His whole face just smash up”, a relative told Stabroek News.

Relatives were preparing for wakes when this newspaper visited the homes of the dead men yesterday. Narayan’s mother, Gloria Narayan told this newspaper that her son had left the home at around 12:30 pm to watch cricket at Anna Regina. She recalled that she last spoke to him at around 3:30 pm when she told him not to drink because he was on medication and he told her that he was aware of this and promised not to do so. The grieving woman stated that she had purchased the motorcycle last September. The youth had apparently left Anna Regina to go farther up the Coast and was returning when the incident occurred. He is the second person in the Narayan family to die by accident. In October 2006, his brother, Kawall had died in a car accident at La Union, Essequibo. Relatives said that he was “very loving and caring”.

He later went drinking with friends at Anna Regina, she stated. He was returning home, when the incident occurred. Bisnauth was the pillion rider on his motorcycle.

Singh disclosed that her brother had the motorcycle for the past three years. He leaves to mourn his wife, two children, his mother, two sisters and other relatives. Relatives described him as hardworking.

McCoy was admitted to the open ward of the Suddie Hospital. He had head injuries and the left side of his head was swollen, a relative said. Bisnauth was reported to be in a more serious condition and was likely to be transferred to Georgetown, reports said.
