The Lancaster/Liverpool/ Manchester Library recently paid tribute to 10 children for their reading abilities as part of the National Library’s centenary celebrations.

The Reading Programme which started on May 27 and concluded on June 24 was aimed at reviving reading among children. Senior Library Assistant Claudette Mickle said since the hosting of the Programme many children have shown significant improvement and much potential.

Forbes Munroe, Senior Probation Officer in Region Six handed over the prizes to the winners including Alia Andrews, Sodia Smartt, and Shimron Ram in the seven – 11 year category; Dinesha Leitch, Ammelia Hally,  Kishel Fraser, Godfrey Blair, Nicholas Blair, and Kavita Chunu in the 12-14 year group, and Anasha Ault in the 15-17 year category. Munroe urged them to keep reading as “it will make your future brighter and better.”

Though the date of the official opening of the Lancaster/Liverpool/Manchester library is not known, Mickle, who has worked there for over two decades, said it dated back to more than 40 years.

She said she and her two staffers take pride in “serving the community.

We provide a variety of resources to help you learn about the present, investigate the past, and plan for the future.”

There are books there to educate, inform and entertain people of all ages, Mickle added.
