Axe handle murder accused remanded to prison

A man who allegedly killed another with an axe handle on Friday was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on July 3 at Georgetown, Jason Clarke, 20, of 60 Fifth Street Alberttown murdered Athiel June.
Clarke was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder .

Attorney-at-Law Kim Kyte who represented the defendant made a request that he be given an opportunity to seek medical attention since he was injured in the altercation with the deceased.

He was subsequently remanded to prison until July 29.

According to initial reports reaching Stabroek News, June called Timothy, had reportedly teased a group of persons about their sexual orientation and was battered to death with an axe handle.

June of 1976 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt collapsed on nearby Flying Fish Street.  He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital some time after 3 pm.
