Vishnu Panday and Associates Inc recently presented Andreasa Morris, the 2008 best graduating computer science student of the University of Guyana (UG), with its Shivraj Maraj Award.

The presentation of a plaque and monetary gift was made in the upper floor of the Demerara Mutual Life Commercial building on Robb Street.
According to a release from the company, this is the fifth such award that was made since the launch of the Shivraj Maraj Award. Morris is the first female recipient of the award and was commended for her achievements in a male dominated field.

She is currently lecturing in the department of computer science at the university and her name as well as those of other best graduating students will be engraved on a board presented to the Computer Science Department.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Vice Chancellor of UG Tota Mangar,  Registrar Vincent Alexander as well as members and staff of the both the university and the company.

The Shivraj Maraj Award was launched in recognition of Managing Director Vishnu Panday’s grandfather who was a strong believer in education, the release noted. The purpose of the award is to self motivate students to set exemplary standards so that they can achieve self-satisfaction and a sense of purpose.
