Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded to prison a 26-year-old man accused of stealing construction items when he on Tuesday appeared in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court.

Amita Paul of 54 Victory Valley, Linden pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny.
Paul is accused of stealing seven aluminum sheets valued $19,000, five gallons of paint valued $12,500 and a five-gallon bottle valued $500, from Michael Fung  between July 7 and 25.

In his defence Paul told the court that he had asked Fung for something because he was broke and hungry and when he didn’t get anything he picked up a few bottles that were in the man’s yard and sold them.

Paul said he was not aware of the complaints against him until he was arrested on Tuesday morning and put before the court. Bail was denied on the grounds that he is known to the court.

Paul was ordered to appear in court on September 22.
