Linden businessman shoots brother in leg

A Linden man is nursing two gunshot wounds to the leg at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) following an altercation with his brother.

O’Neal Fordyce, 45, of Half Mile Wismar, Linden was yesterday shot by his older brother, Linden businessman, Phillip Fordyce, who has been taken into police custody.

According to eyewitnesses, O’Neal, who residents said was “a known trouble-maker in the area”, was liming at a shop in the Half Mile area all morning. They said that at approximately 2.30 pm O’Neal noticed his brother Phillip coming out of his yard and he started to run. He was stopped by the businessman and a fight ensued between the two.

During the altercation, witnesses said, Phillip pulled out his weapon and shot his brother twice in the leg. As O’Neal fell to the ground, Phillip got into his car and drove off.

The witnesses said the businessman had accused his brother of stealing a quantity of iron from his business and O’Neal had been in hiding for a few days.

Stabroek News understands that neighbours took O’Neal to the LHC where he was admitted and Phillip drove to the Wismar Police Station, where he reported the incident and was taken into custody.

Last year, Phillip Fordyce had shot a man who was attempting to break and enter his home.
