Canada-based Guyanese donates to Paediatric Ward

A Canada-based Guyanese on Friday donated a quantity of towels, bed sheets, pillow cases, medications and toys for the children of the Paediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Chandrica Deo Manorath of Toronto, Canada said that the initiative is the result of a collaborative effort he has established with  the Amerindian International Development Agency and the Rosewood Nazarene Church, both of Toronto, Canada.

When asked what had prompted the donations,  Manorath who is a member of the Rosewood Nazarene Church and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Amerindian International Development Agency said that the move was prompted by regularly visiting his native Guyana and being aware of the needs existing here.

“I know that there are many needs that exist here at the GPHC and I have just decided as a born Guyanese to give back to my country in whatever way I can,” Manorath said.

The donor said that funds were pooled together by himself and wife along with two other Canada-based Guyanese whom he identified as Mr. and Mrs. Bhiro.

Committing to making the donations a regular feature on his calendar of events, Manorath has also issued a call for other Guyanese in the Diaspora to make similar donations to organisations in need here.

He said also that donations of towels, clothing, shoes and toys have been made to ‘Kids First Fund’.

Manorath has also indicated that similar donations would be made shortly to Amerindian settlements in the South Rupununi.

Friday’s simple handing over ceremony was done in the compound of the hospital.
