A man was on Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery when it was read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

On July 14 at Georgetown, Dellon Boucher, 19, of 43 Sparendaam, Plaisance Housing Scheme robbed Ociana Ray of one cell phone and a chain valued $32,000, property of the virtual complainant.

Ray, however,  was not present in court.

When given a chance to respond, the defendant told the court that on the day in question he was  accompanied by a group of friends when  he saw the VC on the seawall and just ran up to her, choked her and relieved her of the items mentioned in the charge, before making good his escape.

“I just run up to she, choke she, tek away she phone and chain and run away,” the defendant explained.

Police Prosecutor Denise  Griffith told the court that the VC was on the seawall sitting with a friend when the defendant and a group of friends approached her. The defendant, Griffith said, accosted the VC, choked her, snatched her chain, took away her cell phone and ran.

The acting chief magistrate then sentenced the unrepresented Boucher to two years imprisonment.
