President Bharrat Jagdeo says the administration will utilize the assistance of an external source to probe the fire which wrecked the Ministry of Health on Friday while declaring that its response to the blaze will not be found wanting.

He was optimistic that the $25M reward which has been offered to track down the perpetrators may lead to some information, but noted that it still too soon to determine who was responsible for the fire.

Jagdeo made the disclosure of external help being offered to his administration in an interview with the National Communications Network (NCN) on Monday, and during the sit-down he emphasized that a thorough investigation would be conducted.

The Health Ministry’s main building and an annex at Brickdam were channa- bombed on Friday sparking a huge fire that resulted in massive losses.

The Head of State said too that his government has a responsibility to provide services to the people while it outlines a plan for rebuilding the ministry.

He made the point that pursuing the perpetrators must not be all-consuming since there is a focus on continuing services to the people.

Meanwhile GINA also reported that the two channa bombs discovered on Sunday in overgrown grass by a fence near the compound of the Ministry of Public Works were found to be inactive.

The agency made reference to statements Public Works Minister Robeson Benn made about the devices being placed there for nefarious purposes. Benn stated that his ministry is working with security providers to ensure security of the building.

However, Benn spoke of security lapses at the ministry saying that on the day the discovery was made only one of the three security guards were on duty- two had shown up for work and one left earlier than scheduled.

“We too have our concerns with the standard and level and efficiency of the security being provided. This is something that we have been actively interfacing with them about.

We think generally their efforts have improved over the year or so but not yet of the standard we want it to be be. We are having ongoing reviews of this issue”, Benn was quoted as saying.
