According to a police press release, the accident occurred at about 1:15 am on the Windsor Forest Public Road, West Coast Demerara. The police said that “Singh was driving motor vehicle PLL 131 along the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle which toppled into a trench, trapping him inside.” He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the man’s reputed wife Bibi Singh, Seecharan left home on Thursday evening just before 6 pm “to visit a friend who lived across the river.” She said that this was a regular habit of his. Bibi believes that the man was returning home when the accident occurred.   Bibi said that according to reports, when her husband lost control of the vehicle and careened off the road, persons tried to save her husband but their efforts were in vain.  She said that persons have since told the police that another person was in the vehicle with Seecharan but that this individual escaped after the accident occurred.

Seecharan was employed as a driver at PESTEX, a pest control company. Bibi and Seecharan have a 12-year-old son Akash. Bibi told this newspaper that she had recently received a job offer overseas and was preparing to leave the country next week. However, this plan has now been put on hold following the death of her reputed husband. Police are investigating the matter.
