Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Thursday granted $30,000 bail to a 19-year-old security guard accused of stealing a case of beer and an electric drill from the Bowling Alley.

Shane Thornhill, of 313 Republic Park, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of simple larceny when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. It is alleged that between June 1 and 30, Thornhill stole a case of premium beer and an electric drill together valued $55,000, from the Bowling Alley. The items are the property of Marlon Rajigah.

Sebastian Chunoo, General Manager of the Bowling Alley told the court that the police statement had indicated that three cases of premium beer had been stolen and that Thornhill had stashed the drill at the building next to the Bowling Alley. Chunoo said the neighbour had told him that Thornhill said he would have uplifted the drill from their home the following day.

In his defence, Thornhill told the court that he did not steal the items.

The prosecutor told the court that Thornhill had given the police and the court differing addresses and that he was not sure where he truly resided.
