Government has greenlighted a $700 million contract towards the modernization programme of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority.

The authority had been awaiting the approval of the sum for some time now and the monies are to go towards the general upgrade of equipment for the aviation agency.

Additionally, in this sector, close to $50 million is to be expended on the cleaning and maintenance of the Cheddi Jagan International airport (CJIA) Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon told reporters on Thursday.

In the education sector Luncheon also revealed that government granted its no –objection to a $16.6 million contract for the construction of the Sophia Nursery School and the supply of computers and accessories to some schools at a cost of $48.3M.

In the security sector some $131.7 million is to be expended on the procurement of firefighting equipment for the Guyana Fire Service and another $17.3 million is to b spent on training facilities for the Felix Austin Police College , Eve Leary.
