Cop shoots man in index finger

The police are investigating a shooting incident which occurred at about 5 pm yesterday in which Dexter Whyte 29, of Hadfield Street Lodge was shot and injured by an armed police rank who was on duty at the time.

According to a police press release, investigations have revealed that the armed rank was patrolling the compound of Bidford House, New Garden and Charlotte streets when he saw Whyte inside the compound. He challenged Whyte during which there was a struggle and a round was discharged which struck Whyte in his left index finger.
The police said the injured Whyte was taken to the hospital for treatment following which he was discharged and taken into police custody.
