Two plead guilty to DUI, fined

Two drivers who were involved in a recent motor vehicular accident were yesterday brought before the courts after breathalyzer tests proved that they had consumed over the legal alcohol limit.

According to a police press release, Bachan Balram of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Sheik Hanif of Industry, ECD, were charged and appeared before Magistrate Yohance Cave at the Sparendaam Magistrate Court yesterday. They both pleaded guilty and were each fined $7,500.

The two men were tested following an accident at Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara on July 25.

Meanwhile, the driver involved in Sunday’s fatal accident at Half Mile, Wismar, which resulted in the death of pedal cyclist Winston Craig was tested and was found to have been over the legal limit at the time of the accident.
He is expected to be charged tomorrow, the police said.
