A man who allegedly stole a woman’s cell phone was yesterday placed on bail in the sum of $100,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on July 31 at Georgetown, Anthony Pestano, a painter of 46 West Ruimveldt stole from Julia Bascom, one cell phone valued $85,000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny from the person.

Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith told the court that on the day in question, the virtual complainant was walking on Avenue of the Republic when she was accosted by the defendant who snatched her phone out of her hand.

The unrepresented Pestano was ordered to return to court on October 21.
