Man had ‘twa twa’ in camera case at airport

A man was yesterday placed before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge of exporting birds without a lawful permit.

Marlon Errol Harriram pleaded guilty with an explanation to the charge of exporting birds without permission when it was read to him by Magistrate Priya Beharry.

On July 31 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Harriram was exporting birds without lawful permits. He was about to travel to New York on a Delta Airlines flight.

When given a chance to respond, Harriram told the court that the birds were his pets and he had no knowledge that permission was needed to take the birds along with him. He then asked the court for lenience.

The police prosecutor told the court that the defendant had the three small ‘twa twa’ birds concealed in a Samsung camera case.

The unrepresented Harriram was later placed on $50,000 bail. His matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for August 6.
