Sophia artists stage exhibition

“Reflection,” an exhibition and sale of arts and crafts from Sophia, will commence this Friday to commemorate the newly formed Sophia Artists Group.

The group, according to a press statement, was formed after discussions between artists Trevor Thornhill and Louis Jordan who are now its president and vice president, respectively. Discus-sions focused on Art and Culture and it was recognized that there is no activity in Sophia to display and promote its talent.

An exhibition and sale commencing on Friday and ending on Sunday, entitled “Reflection”- because it aims at reflecting the talent of artists and Sophia as a whole, will be held at the Pattensen Multi-purpose Community Centre. An opening ceremony will be conducted on Friday at 4 pm and the exhibition lasts until 8 pm. On Saturday and Sunday activities will be ongoing from 10 am to 8 pm.

The objective of the Sophia Artists’ Group, the press release said, is to motivate and teach youths art since many of the young people in Sophia are either school dropouts, unemployed or underemployed. Membership is open to all artists residing in the Sophia community.
