The two injured persons remained unidentified up to press time. The accident occurred shortly before 7 pm yesterday.

An eyewitness told this newspaper that the motorcyclist was moving north along the western carriageway and the route 31 minibus was moving south along the eastern carriageway when the “jam up” occurred.

“This motorbike man been riding good good behind this truck and is overtake he overtake de truck and slam right into the minibus,” the eyewitness recalled, “this man pitch off this bike and lef’ on de road like if he dead.”

When Stabroek News visited the scene of the incident police had already collected their data and marked the point of impact on the road. The minibus, visibly damaged on the right side, was parked a short distance away. This newspaper understands that the minibus driver was taken into police custody.

Other eyewitnesses said that ranks from the La Grange Police Station responded quickly and immediately rushed the two injured individuals to the hospital. The smashed and bent remains of the motorcycle were lodged at the police station as well.

Questioned last evening about the condition of those injured, police said the motorcyclist and pavilion rider were “critical” but they could not give details of the injuries sustained.

The driver of the truck, which the motorcyclist allegedly overtook, was at the police station giving a statement. He refused to comment when approached by Stabroek News.
