A man accused of stealing foodstuff from his mother was yesterday placed on $20,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that between July 30 and August 1 at Georgetown, Michael Lee of 234 East Ruimveldt stole from Brenda Lee a quantity of foodstuff valued $8,000, property of the said Brenda Lee.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him by the magistrate.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant who lives with his mother is in the habit of stealing her food items. He said also that the accused is addicted to illegal substances.

The magistrate told Lee that he would not be able to go back to his mother’s residence as his mother indicated to the court that she didn’t want him around her.

The accused then told the court that he would move in with other relatives at Lot 17 Goed Fortuin, West Coast Demerara.

The unrepresented Lee was ordered by the magistrate to return to court on November 2 for the commencement of his trial.
