PNCR protests at OP, US Embassy

The PNCR took its protest to the Office of the President (OP) yesterday continuing to call for an investigation into revelations made in a US court in which the names of some members of the government have been linked with confessed drug trafficker Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan.

20090808protesters1Yesterday’s protest action commenced shortly after 2.30 pm. The protesters assembled at the Square of the Revolution and headed to the Shiv Chanderpaul Drive entrance to OP but were prevented from passing barricades which were being manned by members of the Guyana Police Force. The protesters questioned the officers manning the barricades, some saying that permission was granted by the police for them to protest in front of OP and noted that it was within their democratic right to protest at the location.

protest action for over an hour. Some placards read ’Ramsammy must resign now’, ’Put Ramsammy on trial now’. While the protesters had marched along the roadway they had chanted and called on the administration to step down.

The protest action was briefly interrupted by a heavy downpour following which the group headed to the US Embassy in Kingston where they were joined by PNCR Leader Robert Corbin.

The PNCR and its supporters had been protesting in front of the Ministry of Home Affairs over the past few days.
