The man’s battered and shot body was discovered in a yard at First Field, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara early yesterday morning, just streets away from his Lot 914 Fourth Field, Kaneville home.

Kenrick Charles told Stabroek News yesterday that police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with his son’s murder. Police, according to the man, were at his Kaneville residence yesterday morning and requested that his reputed wife, Marva Cuffy, go to the Grove Police Station to give a statement.

“They wanted my wife to go to Grove Police Station to give them a statement about how de man come at we house looking for Brendon just before he get kill,” Kenrick explained, “but she ain’t feeling well so we tell them tomorrow [today] she going to do it.”

Brendon, 28, was the oldest of three brothers to have met a tragic end. His brother Deon Charles was 21 when he was killed in December, 2002 and another brother, Devon Charles was 22 when he was killed in January, 2006.

Brendon, Devon and Deon Charles were all accused of a number of armed robberies and murders. It is unclear whether they were convicted of any. Brendon had been charged with the murder of Agricola icicle vendor Tyronne Williams in May 2003 and, according to his mother, he had also been accused of murdering Devon Cambridge who was found dead in D’Urban Backlands a few years ago.

Cuffy had told Stabroek News that Brendon had learnt from several of his friends in the area that the men were looking for him to kill him. At approximately 12.30 am Saturday, the woman had reported, a man went to their house calling out for Brendon. The woman had said that the man had been accused of murdering her son Devon during 2006.

After the man left, the distressed mother had explained, she immediately called Brendon on his cellular phone and told him that the man had been looking for him. Cuffy said she warned her son to be careful during their telephone conversation and that was the last she heard from him. Residents reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot shortly after 1 am. Brendon most likely died some time after then.

Police in a press statement on Saturday offered no details. They only reported that the body of Charles was found and that he died from a suspected gunshot wound. They are yet to say more about the investigation.
