First Mahdia Expo starts today

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce is set to host the first ever Mahdia Expo at the weekend.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Minister Manniram Prashad and the Mahdia Expo committee are hosting discussions on an agenda for the fair. The three-day event will be held under the theme ‘Celebrating our Potentials’.
Prashad told the media that the ministry aims to promote trade countrywide and intends that certain areas become self-sufficient. He also lauded the committee’s efforts to make the event a reality and revealed that the ministry plans to host the fair annually.

The Guyana Tourism Authority is expected to erect a booth at the Expo promoting domestic tourism. Patrons can also expect to see mining demonstrations and participate in a mini ‘Porknocker’s Day’ exercise, courtesy of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission. The porknocker exercise which will be held tomorrow, will give participants a chance to win valuables. This event will be followed by the sashing of Miss Mahdia 2009.
On Sunday a number of sport and games for the entire family will be held, along with another football match sponsored by GT&T. The release said the football matches will be the only tolled events.
