The Ethnic Relations  Commission (ERC)  is investigating  an official complaint it has received  from Kwame McCoy, Press and Publicity Officer, Office of the President, against Freddie Kissoon, a Kaieteur News columnist,   regarding  a recent article titled ‘Ten Years of Jagdeo – Faustian Journey’.

The ERC stated in a news release yesterday that according to Mc Coy, Kissoon’s article had  “exhibited racist behaviour when he associated him with a monkey.”
The Commission said further that  without prejudice to this  current complaint and the ongoing investigation, it  would “remind all Guyanese, particularly media operatives, to refrain from practicing racist behaviour in their reporting and writing since it is against the law.”

The ERC  said it also had to “reiterate  that persons who have been discriminated against on the basis of ethnicity or religion should  report this to the ERC where an investigation will be conducted.”
