Stolen Corentyne car abandoned at Onverwagt

Police in Berbice are investigating an incident in which a car, which was stolen from a resident at Courtland, Corentyne on Monday night, was later found abandoned at the village of Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice.

According to reports, the owner of the vehicle, Brentnol Samuels parked his Toyota Carina PLL 4826 under his home at Lot 190, Courtland, Corentyne, Berbice around 10:30 on Monday night and later retired to bed. Around 1:30 am on Tuesday he was awakened by sounds coming from his yard and upon enquiring, Samuels noticed two men driving the vehicle out of his yard.

The man quickly reported the matter to the Albion Police Station after noticing the men driving his car in the direction of New Amsterdam. A police roadblock was set up on the public road at Hope Village on the West Coast and, upon noticing the roadblock, the perpetrators turned around and headed towards the village of Onverwagt, where they later abandoned the vehicle in a road, approximately one mile from the public road.

The car was recovered by the police and is presently in the compound of the Fort Wellington Police station.
