Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday ordered that Romeo Andrews, who is accused of stabbing and stoning to death a Sophia man last Sunday, be remanded to prison.

stood in handcuffs in the dock of the court and was informed by the magistrate that he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of murder.

It is alleged that on August 17 at North Sophia, he murdered Andrew Thomas called ‘Payee’ or ‘Lumber man’, a father of three of North Sophia.

Prosecutor Denise Griffith stated that Thomas and Andrews had known each other for sometime.

She said that on the day in question Thomas was seated in a North Sophia shop at about 12:30 hours looking at the television when Andrews entered the shop and stood in front of the television, blocking Thomas’ view.

She said that an argument between the men ensued since Andrews refused to remove from his position. She said that Andrews subsequently pulled out a knife and slashed Thomas across his upper chest. Griffith noted that Thomas then ran out of the shop and that Andrews followed him until he collapsed. Residents in the area took Thomas to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Griffith also stated that Andrews who had fled the area after the incident had later turned himself into the police.

She then stated that bail should not be granted to the defendant. The magistrate subsequently ordered that Andrews be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on September 8.

According to reports Thomas and Andrews had had a recent confrontation and that may have spurred the attack.
