Wanakai murder suspect in police custody

The man, suspected of murdering 28-year-old Martin Daniels of Holoquai, turned himself into the police yesterday morning.

Police in a press statement said that at about 7.30 am yesterday the suspect turned himself in following the August 16 murder of the Holoquai, Aruka River resident. Charges, according to police, will be instituted shortly and investigations are ongoing.

In an earlier statement, dated August 16, police had reported that about 3 am that day Daniels was killed at Wanakai, North West District, by the male suspect. Before his demise, Daniels, the suspect and others had completed self-help work at about 6 pm the previous day after which they began drinking.  It was while doing this the suspect, as a result of an old grievance, dealt Daniels a blow to the head with a piece of wood and fled.

Daniels was rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.
