A Georgetown resident fears for his life and those of his family after being attacked by “channa-bomb throwers” several times this year.

Brian La Fleur, who operates a mechanic shop in central Georgetown, told Stabroek News last evening that four attempts have been made to torch his house and on one occasion he was attacked by gunfire.

La Fleur said that he was first attacked in mid March and suspects that these acts have been committed by a group of persons with whom he has a “personal problem”. The man said on that night in March he and his family were in their living room when they heard the sound of glass shattering and upon investigation discovered the eastern wall of their house ablaze.

The latest attack on La Fleur and his family came on Saturday morning. La Fleur said that another “channa-bomb” was thrown at his house. He also told this newspaper that on one occasion after hearing what sounded like glass shattering he went to his front door to “check it out” and someone fired two shots at him.

All of these incidents have been reported to the police, La Fleur told Stabroek News, and the Fire Service is also aware of the incidents where an actual fire was started. Police, the distressed man said, have so far been unable to do anything.

“Tonight [yesterday] we found one of the channa bombs in the drain at the side of our house and we called the police and they said they will come to remove it…the last thing I heard from the police was that investigations are ongoing,” La Fleur said.

The man stated that he no long feels safe in his home and is terrified that something will happen to his family. Most nights, La Fleur explained, he remains awake to keep watch so that in the case of an attack he will be able to respond quickly.
