Magistrate Priya Beharry granted bail to three men who allegedly stole several speakers and other musical appliances, property of Fusion Sound System, and another man who reportedly received some of the stolen items, when they appeared before her on Monday at the Georgetown Court.

Durant Griffith of William Street, Kitty, Mark Dexter, 20, of South Ruimveldt and Linden Hazel of Laluni Street, Queenstown, all pleaded not guilty to a simple larceny charge while Gopaul Boodram, 36, of National Walk, Triumph, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property.

Griffith, Dexter and Hazel denied that between February 26 and July 20 this year, they stole 22 music speakers, several amplifiers and other musical items from Fusion Sound System, property of Roy Ferguson, valued over $1.1M.

Boodram denied that he received six speakers, totalling $240,000 in value, on August 5 from Dexter, property of Roy Ferguson, knowing same to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The prosecution stated that Ferguson is the proprietor of Fusion Sound System.
The prosecution said that Griffith is employed at the company while Dexter and Hazel are former employees.
The prosecution also stated that when Ferguson made checks for the musical appliances he discovered that speakers and other items were missing.   He then made a report to the police station and when Griffith was questioned he admitted the offence and told the police that he had given the speakers to Dexter and Hazel who in turn gave them to Boodram.
Ferguson, who was also present in court, stated that he will be offering evidence against Griffith, Dexter, Hazel and Boodram.

The prosecution stated that six speakers were found at Boodram’s home.
However, Adrian Thompson who represented Griffith, Dexter and Hazel had applied for bail for them on the ground that they posed no risk of flight.

Meanwhile, Boodram’s lawyer Patrice Henry applied for bail for him on the grounds that he was a father of four and he had been in police custody since last Thursday.

The prosecution made no objections to the bail applications and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $250,000 each for Griffith, Dexter and Hazel while Boodram was granted bail in the sum of $100,000.
The four men are scheduled to make another court appearance on September 22.
