Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on Wednesday ordered that two Brazilian brothers, who were allegedly caught at Lethem with a quantity of cannabis in their possession, be remanded to prison when they appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Twenty-one-year-old Euclideo Da Costa Monjabeira and Ernaudes Da Costa Monjabeira, 23, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

They denied that they had 889 grammes of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking on August 21 at the Lethem Multipurpose Complex, Central Rupununi.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that the brothers be remanded to prison and transferred the case to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for September 8.
