The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) distributed 23 bursary awards to its members’ children who qualified at the National Grade Six Assessment.

In a press release GAWU said of the recipients Bibi S Khan and Sangeeta Persaud tied with the highest marks. Sursattie Soesarran, Leon Bailey, Omanai Joseph Duncan and Marcia Stanton secured double awards as their parents are members of GAWU’s credit union.

The children were drawn from workers that GAWU represents across the entire sugar industry: Demerara Timbers Limited, the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation and the BEV Processors Inc, among others.

The union congratulated the successful students and their parents and encouraged them to continue studying and to strive for even greater success in the new school year. GAWU said it is proud to recognise the students’ success with bursaries. It also commended the parents and urged them to continue to support their children’s education.
