Seven physiotherapists have been added to the health care system.

According to a Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA) press release the physiotherapists have just completed five years of studies in Cuba.

The ministry held an orientation session on Tuesday at the office of the National Commission on Disability where it was revealed that the personnel will be attached to the diagnostic and treatment centres and hospitals in Region Four for six months.

The physiotherapists told GINA that they were grateful to the Guyana and Cuban governments for the opportunity to study. Dexter George said the accommodation and teaching in Cuba were excellent and it afforded him a chance to become a qualified physiotherapist. After completing their internships, the students will be deployed countrywide.

According to GINA physiotherapy services are available in regional hospitals and in health centres in regions three and four. Care is also provided at the Georgetown Hospital; for patients with neurological problems at the Palms and for children with special needs at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre.
