The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) recently presented bursary awards to 11 members of its Early Savers Club who were successful at the recent National Grade Six Assessment.

In a press release the bank said the awardees obtained the highest marks from 49 entries. They are Abhimanyu Dev, Somant Heeralall, Khajal Parasnath, Jenelle Geness, Amrita Ramnauth, Maheshwerie Samaroo, Bayeeshmaal Ramsundar, Leonie Ramkaran, Chaavi Deodat, Cuddy Holder and Ophera Razack. This year the awards were presented to students who gained places at Queen’s College.

At a brief ceremony hosted to fete the awardees Assistant Manager- Research and Planning Sean Noel congratulated the students and acknowledged that they would have made a number of sacrifices to achieve their excellent scores. He told the honourees that their first lesson as they leave for high school is that hard work brings rewards. He also encouraged them to continue their enthusiasm for learning and to continue to be disciplined. Noel charged the pupils “to work hard, choose good friends and be a good friend to others.”

Assistant Chief Education Officer – Secondary Division, Ministry of Education Melcita Bovell commended the bank for its ongoing support to the ministry and students.

Meanwhile, Marketing and Public Relations Officer Dahana Ramjist in her closing remarks urged the students to take full advantage of the knowledge they gained in primary school as they embark on this new stage of their lives.

The release said the awards were presented to the students by Senior Manager, Operations Vidya L Singh and Training Officer Patricia Clarke.
