- Plaisance and Vryheid’s Lust supply severely limited

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) wishes to advise its customers at Bareroot, East Coast Demerara that water supply to the community will be restored by next Monday.

According to a release from the water utility, the company has been engaged in laying new pipelines in the area and these are being installed at required standards.GWI stated that the installation of the transmission and distribution system is expected to be completed by next Monday while the utility is also new connections in streets where there were previously no pipe lines.

The water company has initiated a Government of Guyana funded programme which seeks to provide Bareroot residents with adequate water supply. The cost of the project is approximately $40 million.

GWI’s CEO Yuri Chandisingh stated in the release that “GWI has a proactive approach to dealing with areas affected by water supply problems, such as Bareroot”. He said that the company has a programme which is focused on identifying all problematic areas and the correct intervention which is needed to bring relief to residents in the swiftest manner possible.

Chandisingh urged residents to lend their patience to the water utility, noting that the company is constantly gathering information on residents who are without water supply, the aim being to provide a solution in the fastest way possible.

Meanwhile, residents of Plaisance and Vryheid’s Lust on the East Coast Demerara are calling on the water utility to attend to their water woes as soon as possible. The residents told Stabroek News yesterday that since the last week of August, they have been receiving water for only a few hours during the day, which has been inconveniencing most persons including those who work.

One Plaisance resident told Stabroek News that water comes through the taps in her yard at 10 am and shuts off some several hours later, much to the inconvenience of persons returning home from work. She said on weekends the situation is no different with most persons spending the day waiting for water in order to carry out key household chores including washing clothes.

Efforts to obtain a comment from GWI yesterday were in vain.
