Man’s assault charges dropped after wife says she lied

Roy Pearce of Nottinghamshire, Linden had three charges against him dropped last week when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court. Pearce was facing charges of assault, ill treatment to a child and using threatening language. His wife Lisa Pearce told the court under oath that she did not wish to give evidence against her husband in the case of use of threatening language.

In the matter relating to assault his wife said the report that she had made to the police was false. According to the woman at the time of the report she was very angry and that resulted in her making to false statement. She was warned that she could have been locked up for giving a false report and was advised against such action in the future.

The case of ill treatment to child was dismissed because the police prosecution did not have in their possession the jacket for the case. Pearce was however ordered to keep the peace for nine months or in default, two months imprisonment.
